500 million women cannot read or write
That’s nearly one in six women around the world.
There are many voices doing great things to change this (Julia Gillard; Emma Watson; Michelle Obama; Queen Rania and others), and changing this is key for all of us – a basic education has been predicted to; deliver a 25% increase in agricultural food output for Africa; increase immunisation rates in low and low-middle income countries by up to 43%; dramatically change views on environmental protection; and increase global GDP by up to 0.3% for every % point increase in women’s literacy.
Good outcomes for all – women, men and children. So please take a moment to look at some of the initiatives out there and perhaps think about how you can help make the world a better place by supporting literacy and other educational initiatives.
